Should you ever tell a client that you believe they are ‘wrong’?

Should you ever tell a client that you believe they are ‘wrong’?

The simple answer to this one is yes, of course, you should! Your client is proud of an idea that they think will make them stand out from the crowd. Standing out is (nearly) always a good thing, isn’t it? Again, well yes, if you are standing out for the right reasons.

This is where a strong relationship with open channels for frank discussion really count.  There are different ways of breaking the news – remember that girlfriend who cried for weeks and then made comments about ‘size’ to your friends!  A good client / agency relationship is built over time and is based on respect.  Remember the client is paying you for advice not just implementation of their plans.

Be confident of your judgement and your thinking – that is after all, why you got the gig in the first place.
