Is this Feminism or Discrimination?
Linkedin recently seems to be awash with ‘Female New Business Woman of the Year’ this, ‘Female Entrepreneur of the Year’ that… I guess this is a function of the time of the year.
I’m not taking anything away from these ladies – they should be very proud of all that they have achieved – here comes the but…
Shouldn’t it be ‘Business Person of the Year’ this.. or ‘Entrepreneur of the Year’ that.. As a gender are some women not widening the divide by making a deal of the difference? Shouldn’t women embrace their achievements rather winning against other women – does this not defeat the object of the exercise?
Be the best you can be in your sector whatever your gender.
We should always be the best that we can be and allow others to be the best that they can be too - whatever their gender, colour, sexual orientation and even what football team they support – and show the same respect to others on the same basis.
Surely, excluding men from these awards must be, by definition, sexist and not offering them the same opportunities – isn’t this exactly the sort of discrimination from which we are trying to get away?
My partner at TTMA, Richard, wondered if he would be able to join these Female organisations – I thought it was unlikely – I am happy to be proved wrong.
